G.B. Northcote
Sir,
223
Heunghang 7th January 1882
I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of 7th instant, stating that, in an account of an interview I had with His Excellency the Governor,
the 25th October 1881, headed "Further Statement by F. B. Johnson", I omitted reference to certain subject of conversation which I had with the Governor, and which
you, at His Excellency's instance, request me to supply.
In reply I beg to say that the statement I made to Messrs Breeeton & Wotter, the Solicitors to Mr I.C. Haytlar,
to which you refer, did not purport to be and can in no sense be considered, an account of the interview I had with the Governor on the 25th October
last. In compliance with invitation addressed to me by the Governor, in a note marked private, I called upon him, at Government House, the
day in question, where
